Thank Goodness For Rice Cereal

So four months ago today my little man was born - that is SO hard to believe! The time has absolutely flown by and it kind of makes me sad. But at the same time, I love the stage he's in right now. He's so responsive and always smiling at me, which is the best feeling ever! I can't wait to watch him learn and grow - I'm having so much fun with him!

Two nights ago we started giving him rice cereal. In case you haven't seen Parker, he is a big baby boy and he loves to eat! He's got a huge appetite and I've never seen a baby that likes to eat as much as he does. He hadn't been sleeping through the night at all since he was born, so I decided to try a little rice cereal with his night feeding. That night he slept from 10 pm until 6:30 am which is a huge accomplishment for us! Last night he did the same thing, and I think we're onto something great! I'm so happy to finally be sleeping again!

Our only problem now is that he's not napping well at all during the day. He went from napping all throughout the day to nothing! What's up with that? Today he cried for an hour and 15 minutes and I finally caved! I couldn't take it anymore, I just felt awful for him. Any suggestions on what to do about that? I'm such a first time mom - always questioning everything I'm doing... I'm hoping that improves with time! Anyways, here's a picture of Parker that I took on our walk the other day.

Yay for finally sleeping through the night. Have you tried putting on music when he goes to sleep to help calm him? Also a sound machine or humidifier might help Those are good for helping drown out noisy neighbors or barking dogs.

And I LOVE that picture!

he is so adorable! I could eat him up! And yay for finally having a good nights sleep. And yes, you will get more confident over time and by your second child you'll be a pro. But i totally remember the first time mom thing. its very hard. its such a huge transition all the way around. Hang in there. You're doing a great job. At four months the best thing I got for ya is : if he's on a regular feeding schedule (for the most part) give him some good play time after eating in the morning and afternoons.. wear him out with playing and then try to put him in his bed (with some kind of music, good one Jaci).. If you aren't comfortable letting him cry.. go in there and comfort him, but not pick him up.. I would do that every 10 mintues or so with Jorge. Until eventually he fell asleep. let us know how it goes. And remember: no one knows him better than you do and you do what works for you! If an approach isn't working (helping) you don't have to do it because everyone else did it that way.

Thanks for the advice! I got a lullaby CD which he loves, and the fan, and he's actually been doing better with both of those. And Rachel, that's true about doing what works for you. For a while I felt like I should do what other people said to do just because I didn't know any other way. But then I got to thinking that we should just figure out what works best for us, and it's okay to do something different than what other people do. So I've resorted to rocking him to sleep. I've heard not to do that, but we both like it, he goes right to sleep, and I don't have to go through the torture of hearing him scream for an hour and a half, etc. So, thanks for the advice. I can't wait for the day when I don't question myself and doubt if I'm doing the right thing or not. That's why I love hearing from all you mom's that are a few years further along than me. Thanks for both of your input! :)
